    The ACA makes changes to public and private coverage and to public health agencies, health professional training, and other areas overseen by states. A coordinating body will help facilitate the cross-agency collaboration needed for implementation.

    The ACA makes changes to public and private coverage and to public health agencies, health professional training, and other areas overseen by states. A coordinating body will help facilitate the cross-agency collaboration needed for implementation.

    *Full name: Form or designate a coordinating body with representation from key state agencies relevant to implementation of the ACA.

    *Relevance to the ACA:

    The ACA affects issues that are the purview of multiple state agencies. Examples of major provisions relevant to agencies that oversee Medicaid, CHIP, private insurance, and public health include:

    §1001, §1201 – Add consumer protections to individual and group insurance plans.

    §1311 – Requires states to establish insurance Exchanges (or defer to a federally run Exchange).

    §2001 – Extends Medicaid eligibility to all persons with income below 133% FPL.

    §2201 – Requires coordination between Medicaid, CHIP and Exchanges.

    §4201 – Grants for community preventive health activities.

    Connecticut now has a new iteration of the Health Care Cabinet, which was established in Section 14 of the attached legislation, Public Act 11-58.
