Identifying areas of synergy with national priorities has multiple benefits, including creating a strong basis for state – to – state exchange, and positioning states to receive technical and financial assistance to advance population health goals.

    *Milestone details:

*Full name: Define priority population health goals that align with those of the National Prevention, Health Promotion and Public Health Council and are consistent with the funding strategies of the Prevention and Public Health Fund established by the ACA.

    *Relevance to the ACA:

Although the ACA does not require priority setting for population health, the National Prevention, Health Promotion and Public Health Council and the Prevention and Public Health Fund can be great assets to advance state health goals.

§4001 – Creates the Council, which will prioritize evidence-based public health initiatives across health and other sectors; align existing federal programs; develop a national prevention strategy; and consider evidence-based models for population health.

§4002 – Establishes the Prevention and Public Health Fund to support prevention, wellness, and public health activities that include prevention research, health screenings, immunization programs, and specific grants.
